16-19 Tuition Fund Statement

We welcome the additional funding from the government and will use it to ensure that our students are given the best possible opportunity to catch up on lost learning and skill development. The use of this fund will reflect our college mission 'unlocking potential'.

What is the 16-19 Tuition Fund?

The 16-19 Tuition Fund is a one-off funding allocation for the academic year 2020-21. The fund has been made available to schools and colleges to support learners to catch up and close gaps in learning and skill development that have arisen due to the COVID 19 national lockdown in the academic year 2019-20.

Who can be supported by the 16-19 Tuition fund?

Learners who are aged 16-19 and have not yet achieved a grade 5 or above in English and/or mathematics by the age of 16, however, priority will be given to students who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in English and/or mathematics. Students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 19 to 24 may also benefit from this fund.

How will the College use the 16-19 Tuition Fund?

The 16-19 Tuition Fund will be used to provide small group tuition for students comprising of no more than 5 in a group. The tuition will be scheduled in addition to the planned study programme hours already timetabled for the academic year 2020-21.

Students who would benefit from additional tuition and academic support will be identified through the well establish Progress and Progression Review (PPR) as well as teacher referral.

The additional tuition and academic support will be based on an individual’s needs assessment, the identification of an individuals starting point, clear learning goals, expectations, and outcomes.

Additional tuition and academic support will be delivered using a blend of face to face and remote learning.

Examples of some of the tuition and support available will include:

  • Preparation for GCSE resit examination
  • Preparation for functional skills assessments
  • Preparation for deferred vocational assessments
  • Preparation for adapted vocational and technical assessments/examinations
  • Additional teaching and support to close gaps in knowledge and skills in vocational and general education
  • Additional teaching and support to support the mastery of technical skills and knowledge
  • Additional teaching and support to provide subject based support and general catch up
  • Support to develop student engagement in learning, particularly independent learning and development of study skills.

We are confident that the proposed strategies will benefit our students enabling them to close gaps in their learning and/or skill development and enable them to be successful and progress to their chosen destination.

Our commitment

The college is committed to ensuring the tuition fund is used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16-19 Tuition Fund by:

  • Producing this statement outlining how the fund will be used to support the most disadvantaged students, including those students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
  • Publishing this guidance on our website,
  • Recording the use of the fund, including reference to individual students that receive the support, the needs of those students, the number of hours of tuition delivered, and retain the necessary evidence of the tuition provided.
  • Delivering the extra tuition and spend the associated funding in the academic year 2020-21.
  • Notifying the ESFA of any underspent funding from this fund for it to be reclaimed.
