Local Life

In 2012 Her Majesty's Cabinet Office marked the Diamond Jubilee year by awarding city status to one town in Essex ...Chelmsford!

Chelmsford is also the county town of Essex with an abundance of things to see and do locally. Situated at the heart of the county, it also provides an ideal base from which to explore; being only 35 minutes from central London by train or a 30-minute drive from Stansted.

Chelmsford is situated on the banks of the River Chelmer and Can, with attractive rural surroundings this makes it a perfect commuter town.

The former Roman settlement of Chelmsford is best known as the birthplace of the electronics industry. It is here that Marconi established the first radio factory in the world.

Chelmsford has all the amenities of a modern city with excellent shopping and leisure facilities, a lively nightlife and good transport links. It is surrounded by attractive countryside with many traditional English villages and is close to the sea. Despite extensive regeneration, Chelmsford still retains many glimpses of its past, including the old buildings around the Cathedral.
