For the past three years, Chelmsford College has been awarded the Silver Award in the Sustainable Travel Accreditation run by Essex County Council.
This year, Chelmsford College students have been working together to devise practical methods to improve transport and parking at the College. College students have suggested alternative parking and travelling arrangements as part of an ongoing process to improve College life. The “Learner Voice” body advocates alternative means of transport which have the potential to reduce the number of students driving to College.
Learner Voice is the collective voice of college students, acknowledging the perspectives and new ideas of learners, in a respectful and supportive environment. Individuals’ viewpoints are listened to and everyone is encouraged to work together in partnership, in the spirit of democracy.
The Silver Award in the Sustainable Travel Accreditation recognises achieved targets against a Travel Plan Matrix and includes staff taking part in a Sustainable Travel Survey. The results show efforts taken to reduce the number of people driving to work. The sum of £2000 has been awarded to the College, which will be put towards providing secure storage for bicycles.
