Chelmsford College celebrated the 10th anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week along with BBC TV Apprentice Finalist Courtney Wood’s 5th year in business at a special talk which inspired students and apprentices on Thursday 9 March 2017.
Courtney Wood shared his experience from the popular TV show and talked with students about his ambition which drove him to launch his on trend novelty gift business five years ago. Courtney narrowly missed out on Lord Sugar’s £250,000 investment in the series 12 finale to Alana Spencer.
National Apprenticeship Week is all about raising awareness of apprenticeships and showcasing the very best on offer to inspire employers and apprentices alike. Whilst team challenges and boardroom interviews might not reflect a real life apprenticeship, the skills needed to succeed as an entrepreneur in business are strikingly similar.
Courtney impressed students by sharing details of his training, career choices and business, including his business model, profit margins, distribution networks and philosophy.
Courtney’s sound advice to students included finding something you love, working hard and not giving up. Chelmsford College students were so inspired they asked endless questions over refreshments. A celebratory cake marked the occasion and many selfies were taken!
